2 Kings 25:9 (NLT)9 He burned down the Temple of the Lord, the royal palace, and all the houses of Jerusalem. He destroyed all the important buildings in the city.
One of the most devastating things that can happen to a family is a fire that destroys their home. This past Sunday, we prayed for a 19-year-old woman, Lisa, who was in the final weeks of her pregnancy, who was killed, along with her child in a home fire in West Elizabeth. It was incredibly sad to think that not only was the home destroyed, but this young woman and her unborn child were also killed. But how tragic would it be if our church was destroyed by fire, or our city, or if there was widespread destruction throughout our country, or even the world? Not trying to be a downer, but that is exactly what the people of Judah experienced for themselves, the Temple in Jerusalem, and through the Kingdom of Judah. There was great distress and lamentations throughout the Judeans who had already been taken into exile, and even more so for those who were now being led in chains into captivity. However, God is good. No matter how bad things might get for us individually, locally, state-wide, nationally, or globally, God in Christ is still with us and will continue to lead us regardless of what might happen. This should give us great comfort, even in the midst of distress, disaster, or devastation, because we have the joy of the fruit of the Spirit, now and always! Peace and Blessings.
