Ezekiel 17:2 (NLT)2 “Son of man, give this riddle, and tell this story to the people of Israel.
Who doesn’t love a riddle? What is greater than God, more evil than the devil, the poor have it, the rich need it, and if you eat it, you’ll die?
The answer can be found below.
So when the Lord goes to Ezekiel and tells him to tell the people a riddle, do you think it will be something they will find fun? The answer is NO! He uses a riddle about two eagles that essentially tells them they are going into exile in Babylon because of their sinfulness. Who wants to hear that, and who is going to figure that out? Sadly, for those who don’t know or care about God, their minds are on themselves and their “happiness.” However, those who do think about God fall into two groups, a) those who know something is out there, but always seek themselves as ultimately who they want to please, and therefore invent a god that will suit them personally, and b) those who are truly seeking and know that they need something beyond themselves. Group b will often and certainly at times seem like Group A, BUT they are truly seeking and though they might stray, they always continue to walk their path towards God. Only those in Group B can understand and be convicted by the riddles and parables that God in Christ offers to His people so that we can begin to understand. Once again, it is all about God’s love for His people, who will be called to Him no matter where, and no matter what, so that God will not lose one of His own. Praise the Lord!
