Ezekiel 14:3 (NLT)3 “Son of man, these leaders have set up idols in their hearts. They have embraced things that will make them fall into sin. Why should I listen to their requests?
I know that many of you have heard of the idea of what 3 people would you have dinner with whether past or present. Of course Jesus Christ would be the first for me, and then the apostle Paul, and finally John Calvin. I know you might be rolling your eyes, but that would be my choice. You all might have others, but how would you feel that in the midst of your conversation, YOU had a word from Lord that “these leaders have set up idols in their hearts!” Obviously, I would have less of a problem with that because Jesus would be right there, but as the rest of us looked into our hearts, we would be able to see that all of us have “idols” in our hearts about something, as all of us do in some way. So, why should God in Christ listen to our requests? The answer is because God loves us despite our sinfulness, and despite our sinfulness, and on occasion being drawn to what we want, God always calls us back to Himself. More than our love for our own children when on occasion they do wrong, God loves us and will not let us fall away. That is what the “Son of man,” who is Jesus Christ would tell me, Paul, and John Calvin, regardless of our imperfections, and then we would have cake. That would be a great dinner!
