Isaiah 38:1 (NLT)1 About that time Hezekiah became deathly ill, and the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz went to visit him. He gave the king this message: “This is what the Lord says: ‘Set your affairs in order, for you are going to die. You will not recover from this illness.’ ”

When we lose someone we love to any sort of injury or illness, we despair and grieve.  This is a natural reaction to loss.  However, what if you knew that your current illness or injury was what would cause your death and that you knew with certainty that you would not recover?  This aspect of life is not about the grief of others, but your own understanding of life and death and what comes next.  Hezekiah was a good king, certainly in comparison to most of who came before, and better than all but King Josiah who came after.  He had stared down the Assyrians by trusting God, and here he was, much too young, suddenly seeming struck down by an illness, that Isaiah the prophet told him that God had said, “You are going to die!”  Wow!  So what did Hezekiah do?  He turned his face towards the wall and prayed.  He told the Lord that he had always tried to serve Him and worship Him, and then he cried bitterly because he accepted God’s Will. WOW again!  Hezekiah did not beg or plead, but once again put his trust in the Lord, and God told Isaiah to tell Hezekiah that He was giving Hezekiah another 15 years!  Praise the Lord!  We know that God has an unchangeable plan, but we don’t always know what it is or get what He is trying to tell us.  Hezekiah knew that God is God and that he was loved by God, so despite Hezekiah’s sadness, God was going to work everything out.  In the same way, we are called to trust in God and know that no matter what happens we put our trust in Him and that at the end of all things, God’s Will is perfect, good, and wonderful for His people.  Peace and Blessings, Pastor Bob
