Psalm 94:8 (NLT)
8 Think again, you fools! When will you finally catch on?
What does it look like when we are rebuked for our sinfulness? To what degree should we expect God in Christ to be gentle in disciplining us, His beloved children? I suspect that God is clear in His rebuke, to ensure that we do “catch on”! However, I think that is the psalmist speaking and he is obviously less gentle, and does ask the question about our ability to “get” what God is telling us. I have been struck by Proverbs 30:2, which states that “I am too stupid to be human!” Can we as God’s people not get it and are we too stupid to be human? At times I think we are. However, our salvation is not based on our ability to catch on or get it. It is not about our stupidity or non-stupidity. If God is for us, who can be against us. (Romans 8:31) We are sinners, even in our salvation. However, God in His love for us continues to seek to call us back to Him when we stray to the right or left from His path. We may be rebuked and even given consequences for our wrong-doing, but in no way does this imperil our salvation, but God in Christ has called us to be His sons and daughters before the foundation of the earth! (Ephesians 1:4) In this reality, we rejoice and glorify God! Peace and Blessings.
