1 Kings 16:2 (NLT)
2 “I lifted you out of the dust to make you ruler of my people Israel, but you have followed the evil example of Jeroboam. You have provoked my anger by causing my people Israel to sin.

The prophet Jehu, son of Hanani, delivers a message to King Baasha, and it isn’t a good message.  Baasha had not followed in the way of God, but instead followed the idolatry of Jeroboam, the first king of the Northern Kingdom.  Jeroboam had been promised a dynasty for his sons if he followed God, but instead of making that the plan, decided to build two golden calves and place one in Dan and one in Bethel in order to dissuade his people from going to Jerusalem.  Baasha, not only did he not throw these altars down, but instead built even more.  So what are the consequences?  As you continue reading, you will see that not only did Baasha lose his throne, but his entire family was destroyed.  In our sin, do we look to the consequences to those we love.  Sin always has consequences, not only to ourselves, but to others.  God has lifted us up, and redeemed us from the pit.  Therefore, let us avoid the example of those who sin, but follow Jesus Christ each and every day.  Peace and Blessings!
