Proverbs 6:6 (NLT)
6 Take a lesson from the ants, you lazybones. Learn from their ways and become wise!
I don’t know how many of you like Leon Redbone, but when I read this proverb, my mind immediately went to his HIT SONG, “Lazybones!” If you can access YouTube, just click on the image below and it will take you there. Once you get through the commercial, you are home free to enjoy his music. I guess the reason it strikes a chord in me, is that all us can be lazy at times. However, Solomon in his wisdom sees this as a precursor to not doing what we should for ourselves, our families, and our service to God. Some of us, my beloved wife among them, always has to be doing something. After a long exhausting day, she will find work to do when there is little to no work to do, rather than rest herself in preparation for the next day. On the other hand, there are those, hopefully, I AM NOT ONE OF THEM, that always finds a time to rest and relax while there is work to do. God has given us the Sabbath to rest in Him and to recognize the joy of the world around us, including our family and friends. So, what is the point of the proverb? I believe it to be self-reflection in the sense of, are we doing everything God in Christ has called us to do, OR are we taking it easy. Not doing God’s Will and living out His Word is obviously not a good thing, but when we have done so, for the day, because there will always be God’s Word and Will in our lives, God calls us to rest and rejuvenate in Him. Hope you enjoy the song! Peace and Blessings!
