2 Samuel 22:47 (NLT)
47 “The Lord lives! Praise to my Rock! May God, the Rock of my salvation, be exalted!

Our verse today is at the conclusion of a long Song of Praise by David after defeating all of enemies, including Saul.  For those of us who are doing the chronological readings, this section should have been placed once the King Saul narrative had concluded.  As it is, this passage is after David’s fall to the sin of adultery of Bathsheba, murder of Uriah the Hittite, and subsequent bad parenting of Absalom, who tried to usurp his father.  This is important, because David speaks at length about his humility, sinlessness, and righteousness.  However, David does recognize at this early part of his life and reign that it is God who is his Rock of Salvation, and the one who should receive all the exaltation.  One of the consequences of sin is forgetting that God in Christ remains the Rock of our Salvation!  Either pridefulness or self-loathing takes away this assurance and it isn’t until we are humbled or rescued that we are able to recognize God’s mighty hand holding us and keeping us steady and steadfast.  Therefore, let us at all times rely on the one who does not move or shift, who who is a Rock and refuge for not only all His people, but for each one of us specifically.  Peace and Blessings!
