Day Two – First Work Day
Since Zack last wrote to you all we have been quite active. After the amazing dinner Isabella prepared for us last night, we were able to meet as a group as Carrie led us into God’s word. It was a great way to focus on our purpose and reasons were for coming down to San Luis. Afterwards we were able to meet with Adalberto to give us an overview of our week and the impact we can have on the people of San Luis.
Then, outside into a cool 70° night we went to play some soccer with the boys of Oasis. Little did we know that playing soccer would lead us to a stadium watching some of the boys play in an actual match. We thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to watch the boys compete against their peers. Though it did end fairly late at night, and after a long day of travel we were exhausted.
Onto this morning, where we woke up early to gather together for some breakfast and a morning devotional led by Leslie. Her Sunday School experience was definitely on display, and it made for a very engaging and enthusiastic start to our work day. We traveled to work on a house lived in by a man, Pedro, his sister Virginia, and her daughter Victoria. Our ultimate goal is to completely redo the roof, put up a wall, and do some other renovations to the house. This morning we were able to completely tear down an exterior space and reinforce part of the existing roof. We had a slight delay in the delivery of our building supplies, but it allowed us an opportunity to interact with Victoria and her dogs Nina and Chappo. Once the supplies arrived, we were able to build an interior wall, but then the June midday heat came and shut down operations for today. 100+° isn’t as hot as it may seem, but it’s still pretty toasty.
Tonight, Isabella is preparing another meal for us, and if it is anything like last night it will probably become one of my favorite meals of all time, sorry mom! Afterwards we are headed to church, which should be an exciting time, and then right back to work at 6AM tomorrow.
We thank you all for your continued prayers, and we look forward to continuing to share our talents to positively impact people and carry out God’s will. I am excited for what the rest of the week holds.
