Day One – Travel day
Our Mission group arrived safely in San Luis Mexico around 2:30 local time with no hesitations or issues at the border. In all my years of traveling to San Luis, I have never had a more effective crossing, it was truly a blessing.
The Day was a long travel day, but it was nice that the whole team was together for the first time when we landed in Phoenix and met up with Patrick who flew in from San Jose. After meeting there was hardly any time between landing and piling into our van and driving through the 110º Arizona weather. As we drove we shared stories and bonded throughout the dive which was really nice to get to know everyone in a new environment. The travel day is always the day that seems to last forever because of catching an early flight, adding 3 hours to our day, driving through a desert that never seems to end, but it is always worth it when we arrive at our home away from home, the Oasis Boys Home.
Once we got all of our luggage unloaded and moved into our dorms, we all took a trip to the market to pick up food for breakfasts and lunches. This is always a fun time to just go out into the town and get a feel for the people who live here and have a fun time picking out food that we want to try throughout the week. When we returned to the Oasis Boys Home, we got to enjoy our first dinner prepared by Isabella which was absolutely amazing. She prepared chicken enchiladas with refried beans, tomatillo verde salsa, and rice for us to enjoy and it definitely hit the spot. I cannot think of a better way to end our day than being greeted with a fully authentic Mexican meal.
I am so excited to see how God uses this team over the next week and to see how we are affected by his presence. Thank you all for your support, and I cannot wait to share more of this trip when we return.
In Christ, Zack
